tuesday night w/ montana rose, WELL-WORN (ny/canada), & adam kirk @ amnesia. conspiracy of venus, ash reiter, foxtails brigade, jascha shows. winter mix coming soon!

hey everyone!
hope you all are well.
i added a last minute show tonight (tuesday) & wanted to let you all know... this newly formed duo, WELL-WORN, is touring through from Upstate, NY & Ontario, Canada, & features accordion, guitar, autoharp and drums. their album name, "Live Under the Sea", is fitting for a Seaweed Sway show! named so because they recorded in bandmember Matt's childhood bedroom, which is sponge painted in an "ocean-themed" blue-green color scheme. we like the ocean!!

Adam Kirk is opening the night, at 9:30, doors at 9. in Adam's words: "i used to play guitar for the beautiful Joan Baez, then i played guitar for the mystical Sean Hayes - how lucky i be! i'll be singing songs that i have written." excited to hear his tunes again!

Montana Rose!! you may know her from Conspiracy of Venus. lucky for us, she has her own songs too! her lyrics will snatch your attention as you find your head bobbing to melodies backed by Mandi (her mandolin). Always a treat when she is accompanied by local percussion talent, Rob Johnson.

special thanks to adam & montana for rallying to play with two days notice. :)

doors @ 9pm. adam plays at 9:30. $5-7. (after the weekly open mic, 7-9pm, which is FREE.) at amnesia music hall. hope to see you there!!!

vanessa verlee variety show sunday; indianna hale, buxter hoot'n, trans van santos 11-11-11; collin ludlow-mattson, casual dolphins, waiting room, & sleepy todd 11-20

hello everyone,
i hope you all are well. a lot going on in the world, the earth is shaking and the revolution is happening. also a good time to try and stay low to the ground and connected to those things that nourish us.

i'm writing to tell you about the 3 seaweedsway shows this month, starting this sunday. trying to pare it down, get a mini-break, though i will continue to post lots of recommendations at http://facebook.com/theseawedsway

at the bottom of this message, there's a little note about this whole project, as it slows down a bit for revisioning & refocusing into the new year. i learned today this is what the black bear does as well, a semi-hibernation, for kidney restoration, with a little bit of work still.*

additionally, below, if you wanna get political, there are a few links related to the occupy wall street movement: a synopsis of the occupy oakland gatherings & general strike, a way to protest postage-paid via junkmail credit card offers, encouragement to switch your bank tomorrow if you haven't done so yet, & overhead footage of the thousands of people walking together on wednesday. this seems like a holy shit moment in history. + tuesday -vote! i think john avalos is the way to go in the mayor realm. i will post the kate slate on fb if you want some suggestions for the specifics...

& as a reminder, as a contrast to the outward pull, there is yoga & meditation. if you want to travel out to travel in, i'm teaching gentle yoga saturday morning 10:45am-12pm & restorative yoga monday evenings 7:30-9pm.  at the loft sf. 321 divisadero st. @ page. https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=286965077992106 hope to see you there! -jessie

3 seaweedsway shows of november:

1) sunday at viracocha, is the vanessa verlee variety show!! THE OCCASION: vanessa is releasing her new cd "life is oh so" & thus we get to hear the songs that grace it (with an early & late set). you're in for many treats in addition to vanessa's songs, as we will get to experience stand-up comedy from michael musika, stories from obo martin, music & movies from jeremy rourke & aaron kierbel, charades (hopefully) & songs from the dreamers, songs & haiku (perhaps) from dave mihaly, surprises from kenny taylor, & who knows what else.
tickets are only $9 in advance at http://vanessaverlee.eventbrite.com/ they are $13 the night of the show.
EARLY. 7-10:30pm. (reminder: gain an hour & set your clocks back in the morning!)

2) friday 11-11-11, a serendipitous date. what better way to enjoy it than with buxter hoot'n, trans van santos, & indianna hale?? at the brick & mortar music hall. co-presented by heartsleeve productions. on mission @ duboce (kind of by rainbow grocery, between mission & soma)... **full moon**... last binary date for 89 years (or something like that), someone at mojo's cafe pointed out... a wonderful night to celebrate, following the occupy music festival in the daytime... only $5 in advance online (actually $7.14 w. service charge, but still pretty cheap) at http://brickandmortarmusichall.com or $10 at the door, a unique coming together of musical styles. also, lately i hit the internal "reset" button when it's 11:11, so this date to me signifies a time where we all can do that, a time to start again, clear away the old, & bring in the new. what will happen at 11:11 on 11/11/11?? come & find out!

poster by jeff milton

3) sunday november 20th at the make-out room, the monthly seaweedsway showcase, with collin ludlow-mattson & the folks, casual dolphins (c'mon you gotta love that name), waiting room (ronnie's band!), & sleepy todd (coming back! with a short early set at 8pm, don't miss it). $8 for a wonderful night of songs. doors @ 7:30, show is 8-11 for reals. make it out! :) this show is a great gathering of friends, from different circles but overlapping, exciting & intriguing to see how it unfolds.

a few december seaweedsway shows:

thursday december 15th with the choir at the starry plough. the 21st century, conspiracy of venus, & the northerlies. in berkeley right off the BART line.

sunday december 18th at the make-out room with jascha vs. jascha... holiday surprises.

NYE december 31st at amnesia. this show is a collaborative effort, and will be the seaweedsway end of the year party. will be announced soon...

seaweedsway project news:

starting in january, for the new year, seaweedsway will travel to the east bay once a month, on fourth saturdays.
so that's third sundays at the make-out room in sf on 22nd st. & fourth saturdays at the starry plough in berkeley, if you want to pre-mark your calendars.

for those who have contacted me about booking shows, thank you. as a general update: i'm slowing down in that arena, at least for the next couple of months, til 2012. i may have suggestions of people to contact if you'd like them. i am overwhelmed with the maintenance of daily life & needing to clean my room & house & practice yoga & music & have fun & take care of logistics of living in sf, so need to step back a little & get perspective on it all. :) i still will help out where & when i can, & intend to promote the shows i hear about that float through & i know enough about to endorse. am hoping to focus a bit more on the monthly shows at the make-out room & starry plough, amnesia, chasing the moon, conspiracy of venus, & fun collaborations.

everybody: please make a page on http://hearitlocal.com if you haven't yet, and if you are in a band, add your shows... then we can all more easily keep track of what's happening when... some shows will show up onhttp://seaweedsway.com once it's done.

am looking for help with making the autumn treasury mix cd's as well. if you have extra old-fashioned cd cases (the big bulky plastic kind) that you'd be happy to recycle & donate, or if you have ideas of how to cheaply & effectively make lots of mix cd's in the future, please let me know...  thanks to brian & elijiah at rough house for helping me burn more cd's today! thanks to everyone who has helped!

in the future, may look for more help with flyering & promoting in all ways, in exchange for tix to shows or yoga classes or that sort of thing.

thank you to everyone who has contributed, come to shows, played in shows, supported in any & all ways the project that is seaweedsway. the focus continues to shift, but the intention remains the same. let's see where we end up.
thank you
jessie

IN SEARCH OF GOOD FOOD film + benefit for EarthShare CA tonite! BEEHAVERS CD RELEASE + magic leaves friday! CONSPIRACY OF VENUS + michael musika saturday! JOSEPH CHILDRESS, rock falls, + assateague sunday! (weekend @ amnesia)

hello everyone,
there are 4 more shows that i'm involved with in october - tonight through sunday - & then a little break until november. here goes...
................

tonight! i'm very excited to finally get to see antonio roman-alcala's film, in search of good FOOD, documenting and interviewing a variety of players in CA's sustainable food system. (features some music from slow motion cowboys!) ALSO, it's a benefit for the non-profit i've worked at for 7 years, earthshare california. we raise $ for over 80 environmental non-profits, covering a spectrum of issues & topics - clean air & water, healthy sustainable food, land conservation, care of the great sea, mountain lions, desert tortoises, and beyond. it's at el rio in the outer mission, and is gonna be a really fun night. pocket full of rye is playing music after the film, then there will be a few more local films. networking happy hour 6-8 to start the night. would mean a lot to see you there!

Tuesday Oct. 18th --> In Search of Good Food Film & Benefit show for EarthShare CA (where I work!) at El Rio, with live music by Pocket Full of Rye. Songbird Fest Presents!

then, this weekend, i'll be living at amnesia apparently. friday is the long-awaited beehavers' cd release. and to add to the glory, they are releasing not one but two cd's. what?!!! gypsy voodoo folk-rock-n-roll at it's finest. arborea from maine are opening. i've heard some of their songs and am in awe and intrigued. beautiful. magic leaves are closing off the night with some psych-folk-rock joy for our souls. can't wait. unmissable. this show is worth changing all your plans to attend.

"hushed & haunting" joseph childress will end the night with his moving & powerful renditions of stories  ~waves of sound to move us along. opening the night is this band i've literally been listening to on repeat since two weeks ago, when i first heard of 'em. my new favorite band. assateague. they're local, don't play out much & are gracing us with their songs on this night. really important to arrive early & see 'em! doors at 8:30, show at 9. this is also a long-awaited collaboration w/ seaweedsway & arvel hernandez's collective project, endless nest.

ToniTE! LITTLE WINGS, SALT MINDS (w Mariee Sioux), MARK DAVID ASHWORTH & MURALISMO, & WILL SPROTT OF THE MUMLERS @ GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL

HELLO!

last minute reminder for tonight's show at the great american music hall!

if you're keeping track, it's the first official seaweedsway show there, & my first official collaboration w/ loving cup (justin davis). LITTLE WINGS, SALT MINDS, MARK DAVID ASHWORTH & MURALISMO, & WILL SPROTT OF THE MUMLERS + BOB THAYER OF RAD CLOUD DJ'ING -what???!!!

it should be a pretty mellow night overall; but you never know with these folks, little wings could break out a freestyle rap that will blow your mind & get you dancing like you never knew how. actually that is highly likely. important: doors are at 8, and will sprott of the mumlers starts at 8:30. he's so good that it's worth making an effort to be there for his set, seriously. & anyone who arrives before mark david ashworth & muralismo's set gets a free download of their latest album. see? we even have incentive items for early arrival! (they go second, so may as well catch will's set too, & enjoy the whole night). salt minds will be featuring sean kae of dearest, mariee sioux, & jeff manson tonight. they're one of my new favorites too. dance between sets to tunes spun by dj of the night bob thayer of rad cloud. the essential details are here: http://bit.ly/aug26rsvp & tix are here: http://www.gamhtickets.com/events/160694/Little%20Wings & hope you are there! oh, & this show is a good way to celebrate the end of mercury retrograde + the approach of the new moon! community event!

a list of lots o' september shows i'm helping with are below...

for those interested in yoga, i teach a weekly saturday gentle yoga class, 10:45am-12pm. it's only $10 to make it accessible to the community, & all levels are welcome...  this sunday will be the last restorative yoga class on that day/time, 6:30-8pm at the loft, also $10 & all levels. :) as it's switching to monday nights starting the 2nd week in september, 7:30-9pm. http://theloftsf.com

here are stories & pathways to songs for the bands playing tonight:

LITTLE WINGS

Little Wings was formed in San Luis Obisbo, CA, and the music of Little Wings carries the landscape of its place of origin like clouds carry water vapor, to release it in a myriad of forms over a changing landscape. Little wings is a project that revolves around frontman and songwriter Kyle Field, sometimes with drummer Adam Selzer, keyboardist Rob Kieswetter, bassist Mark Leece, and others. His debut album, Discover Worlds of Wonder , was released in 1999 by Walking Records and later in 2000 by K Records. It has been called "a dreamy, balladic tribute to the surreal aspects of the contemporary Californian landscape." Little Wings followed up this first release with The Wonder City and Wonderue to complete their Wonder Trilogy, consisting of three albums released on K and Knw-Yr-Own Records. In 2003, Little Wings released Harvest Joy , followed by Magic Wand in 2004 and Glow in 2005. He released Soft Pow'r in 2007. Kyle Field has played with the likes of Grandaddy, Lee Baggett, and Devendra Banhart, and is also a talented visual artist. A book of his drawings was published by the label Ahornfelder.

SALT MINDS

"Salt Minds Sounds like the last sequoia being turned into a tunnel through which to drive your car. Also it costs ten dollars every time you pass through the tree."
