herbs, outside lands, self-acupressure, slow food nation, art of walking

hello out there*

i tried to make this update short, but it didn't really work. even so, i hope you'll look below to find out about upcoming events, for which i hope you'll save (some of) the dates. the list below is a quick summary, believe it or not, which is why i hope you'll check out other sections of this blog (seaweedsway.blogspot.com) to see a few more!

farm, music, & movement updates to follow:

*8/23 saturday
today saturday august 23rd is a workday at alemany farm. we are continuing to plant & maintain the medicinal herb garden (maintain = watering & weeding & mulching), and we could use your help. please stop by anytime between noon and 5pm. besides herbs, there are a lot of other fruits and veggies that will also need your help -- cucumbers, dry farmed tomatoes, beans, strawberries, kale, chard, squash, basil, and more -- as many of the summer crops are peaking. also, if you have any cardboard to spare, please bring it, as we can use it in the herb beds to prevent weeds from growing.

if you are lucky enough to be going to the outside lands music & arts festival tomorrow, i recommend that you go hear/see sean hayes (3-3:35pm at the presidio - lindley meadow stage) & the two gallants (6 at the same stage). lots of other amazing bands will also be playing at golden gate park too, as you probably know by now.

*8/24 sunday! 1:30-4pm
vanessa verlee is leading an interactive self-acupressure workshop, and i will be assisting. learn self-massage routines and ways to incorporate acupressure points for pain relief and healing into your every day life and yoga postures. the workshop will be held at the Jewish Community Center. to register go to: http://www.jccsf.org/content_main.aspx?catid=79 or call the JCC at 415-292-1200.

*8/26 tuesday
i am continuing to teach a community yoga class at the caretakers house on tuesdays. check the blog for details on the class. please email me to RSVP if you have not done so yet, as space is limited, but there is still room in this week's class. all levels are welcome.

*8/29 friday - 9/1 monday
Slow Food Nation '08 (slowfoodnation.org) is happening in SF next weekend. As part of this, Alemany Farm is co-hosting a Slow Dinner at the San Francisco restaurant Laiola. We invite you to join us either Sunday, August 31 or Monday, September 1 for dinner at Laiola. Some of the meal's produce will be coming from the Farm, and ten percent of the restaurant's earnings from the night will be donated to us for our food security and youth training programs. You can make a reservation by calling 415.346.5641. Please mention "Alemany Farm dinner" when you make your reservation. You can see the menu by visiting www.laiola.com. Please spread the word to help make these dinners a success!

*9/4 thursday, 7-9pm
conspiracy of venus choir practice resumes & is open to new members. if you're interested in joining, please come to this practice or the next one the following thursday to find out more. at a.muse gallery in the mission.

*9/7 sunday, 12-5pm
organic gardening magazine will be hosting a barbeque & dedication of the new herb garden & water catchment system. you'll get a chance to meet some of the Alemany community as well as other farm volunteers. there will even be a ribbon cutting ceremony. we just have to get the herb garden ready by then! please save the date.

*9/11 thursday evening
