INDIANNA HALE
While her greatest influence is a good friend Matt McCluer, Indianna’s writing style developed with notable inspiration from Hank Williams, the Staple Singers, & the Magnetic Fields.  Her band for this show features Tom Edler on bass, Sean Olmstead on guitar, Joe Miller on drums, & guest vocalist. Indianna takes inspiration mostly from “…Sunshine, riding bikes and the salty wind of the beach. It’s California rock, filtered through a ‘lonesome gospel pedal', with a little country swing and a splash of rain.”

AVA MENDOZA
Guitarist Ava Mendoza starts from old melodies already tattooed on your brain, then applies sufficient heat to peel that paint leaving you re-pinked and wondering what’s next. What’s next are original compositions, heavy, gorgeous, oddly reverby, layers that build, blister and flake away to alight indelibly on your mind. Just as Mendoza reprises those traditional tunes, you discover she’s walked you far into a lost countryside. How, or whether, to get back will be your own business.

DUSTIN O'HALLORAN
This acclaimed modern classical artist, film composer and Devics co-founder performs with Magik*Magik String Quartet. "All haunting, minor key strings and moody, softly tinkled piano melodies, on first listen composer Dustin O’Halloran’s latest release seems to have little relation to the optimism-hinting light of the title. Bleak and soaked in introspective emotion, Lumiere is a record that seems to brood and wallow, with a cinematic scope that builds upon the introspective minor key melodies of the two solely-piano records that preceded it.... Whilst the strings may be perennially stirring and strained, O’Halloran deliberately minimises the solace and despair of the lower stringed instruments. On Lumiere, he opts for violins where others may have chosen cellos - herein lies the intelligence and many layers of O’Halloran’s work." --Drowned in Sound
http://www.facebook.com/dustinohalloran

MAGIK*MAGIK STRING QUARTET
The Magik*Magik Orchestra is founded by artistic director Minna Choi. Its mission is to simplify the collaborative process between independent rock musicians and classical artists. The Magik*Magik Orchestra is the official studio orchestra of Tiny Telephone founded in 1997 by local Dead Oceans artist, John Vanderslice. The Magik*Magik String Quartet is an off-shoot ensemble of the Orchestra.
CONSPIRACY OF VENUS
Last show of the season, until fall! This season CoV had a whirlwind of shows, one of the highlights being the Pixies UnderCover Tribute, where Conspiracy of Venus covered "Monkey Gone to Heaven" off the album Doolittle. Conspiracy of Venus is a women's community a cappella group based in SF. The women of CoV interpret director Joyce Todd McBride's daring & inventive arrangements of songs ranging from the classic (Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi) to the cutting edge (Bjork's Possibly Maybe). The group's repertoire also includes works by Bill Withers, Rufus Wainwright, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, and Roger Miller.

We are a serious band with a good track record, grand aspirations, and are looking for a talented musician who shares our aspirations and the associated commitments and wants to be a part of an on-going creative project. We all sing, we help write songs and we want this to be an awesome experience. We intend to record our next album in the Fall and tour in 2012. We are looking for a band to fill a rehearsal slot at Secret Studios (2200 Cesar Chavez, SF, CA). PANIC IS PERFECT
Incorporating afro – pop rhythms, retro synthesized sounds with well crafted song writing and pseudo-spiritual lyrical sensibilities Panic is Perfect has created their own brand of quirky eclectic indie dance pop.

Jeremy Belzer and Mike Hoffman officially started the group as an acoustic duo while traveling in south India together in the spring of 2010. Since then the San Francisco based group has evolved into the 5-piece band it is today. They are currently working on their debut album set to be released in the fall of 2011.

DINA MACCABEE
Dina Maccabee is a violist, violinist, vocalist, and songwriter living in San Francisco. Her new album of original songs was released on October 12, 2010 in collaboration with Toby Summerfield on Antephonic Records. In addition to her work with Ramon and Jessica and Real Vocal String Quartet, she performs in many styles and many bands, from Middle Eastern Psych Rock to 60′s Brazilian Tropicalia. Through the vehicle of the Dina Maccabee "solo" project -- which to date has incorporated many of her top-favorite fellow musicians including Summerfield, drummers Eric Kuhn and Ezra Lipp, guitarists Roger Riedlbauer and Josh Tillinghast, bassists Tom Edler and Joe Lewis, and cellist Jessica Ivry -- she aims to write and perform concise, expressive new songs that resonate like those she returns to over and over again as a listener. http://www.antephonic.com/artists/dina-maccabee.php

INDIANNA HALE

While her greatest influence is a good friend Matt McCluer, Indianna’s writing style developed with notable inspiration from Hank Williams, the Staple Singers, and the Magnetic Fields.  She now plays with a supporting band and takes inspiration mostly from “…Sunshine, riding bikes and the salty wind of the beach. It’s California rock, filtered through a ‘lonesome gospel pedal', with a little country swing and a splash of rain.”

“…a sweet caress of a voice that sounds like something from another era.  The way she warbles a tune is beautiful and mesmerizing, a soft creation you want to crawl inside and dream the day away with,”  Rich Kane, OC Weekly.

AVA MENDOZA
Guitarist Ava Mendoza starts from old melodies already tattooed on your brain, then applies sufficient heat to peel that paint leaving you re-pinked and wondering what’s next. What’s next are original compositions, heavy, go
rgeous, oddly reverby, layers that build, blister and flake away to alight indelibly on your mind. Just as Mendoza reprises those traditional tunes, you discover she’s walked you far into a lost countryside. How, or whether, to get back will be your own business.

TONIGHT! Dina Maccabee and the Excellent Spellers + Holly Mae and the Painted Room @ MILK! 2011 locally-made Calendars! Kacey Johansing and Rad Cloud @ Amnesia Thursday! Comedy @ the Rusty Nail Sat. Jan. 8th!

Hello!
Happy holidays and happy end of 2010! What a year. We made it. (3 more days) Thanks to all of you who have hung out at shows this year, and to those who have stayed on this list even if you can’t make it to the shows, yoga classes, swaps, etc. :) Hope to see you all TONIGHT for a special post-holiday (or mid-holiday if NYE counts as a holiday?) SeaweedSway show with Tenderfoot, Dina Maccabee and the Excellent Spellers, Holly Mae and the Painted Room (in town from Germany!), and the Sylvain Carton Quartet featuring Autonomos Rogers at MILK! folk-jazz-pop-awesomeness in the upper haight across from Amoeba Records. If you're in town, don't miss it! theme ideas have gone through a great progression, you decide what the theme is for you: regifting -- xmas gifts trends --ipads -- ipads with milk on them (if you’re really feelin’ it) -- drunken magi -- scarf night --sing-along night

Get more excited about the show tonight by going here: http://seaweedsway.blogspot.com/2010/12/wednesday-tenderfoot-dina-maccabee.html

Since I'm always encouraging you to mark your calendars, which I hope you'll do when you read the list of shows below, if you still need a calendar for 2011, I recommend you get the Poor SF Bastard's Almanac and Weekly Organizer! it's like a slingshot in that it's a work of art and is home-made, but it's locally focused as well. it has all sorts of neat relevant info - free museum days, last BART times, moon phases, pesticide levels of common produce, which anti-gay companies to boycott, supervisor's contact info, ukulele fretboard and chords, etc. email Stephen at SFresourceGuide@gmail.com to buy them direct (and pay less - only $8) or pick one up at dog-eared books, Needles Ã…nd Pens, or other local bookstores.

On a slightly different note, if you want some stress-relieving yoga this weekend to start 2011 relaxed and rejuvenated: I’m teaching Gentle Hatha on Saturday 12:30-2 and Restorative Yoga Sunday 6:30-8 at the Yoga Loft. Details at http://theloftsf.com or email me if you have questions.

Thanks again for supporting SeaweedSway in 2010! if you're in the bay area, hope to see you tonight and at as many of the events below that you can find your way to! Happy New Year. ~jessie
