descriptions:

IL GATO is an indie-baroque-folk band from San Francisco, California. The core ensemble of musicians consists of guitarist/harmonica/vocalist Damian Holiday Scott, pianist/trumpeter/vocalist Matthew Souther, upright bassist/vocalist Andrew Thomas, and drummer/vocalist Johnny Major. With a pop sensibility, their sound incorporates folk with a reggae down beat, harmonious rap, lavish modern-classical instrumentation, and emotionally charged vocals with a floating delivery. Common associations include Modest Mouse, Beirut, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Arcade Fire.

SANDY'S is a new project from Alexi Glickman of the Botticellis.

In 2009, piano-driven singer-songwriter DEBBIE NEIGHER moved across the country to San Francisco with no job or apartment to pursue her music fully. Learning piano at age four, composing music at age thirteen, and recording her first EP in her living room at age fifteen, she has been crafting music on her own terms for as long as she can remember. Debbie's music combines the quirky storytelling of Regina Spektor, the refined and memorable melodies of Joni Mitchell, and the raucous piano riffs a la the Dresden Dolls. This fall John Vanderslice will produce her debut full-length album at San Francisco's Tiny Telephone Studio.

TARTUFI
“This is huge. Tartufi are just two but sound like twelve. Drummer Brian Gorman must have arms like continents, while the way Lynne Angel loops her vocals makes it seem like three personalities are battling it our for possession of her throat, Hold on to your brains.”
- Kev Kharas, NME
VIRACOCHA is an antique store on Valencia St. that has a performance space as well and is dedicated to community and creativity. A very unique place to see a show!

DESCRIPTION OF ALBUM AND CD RELEASE PARTY:

Valerie Orth’s new album, Faraway City, gets released from the VLO secret hideout on Saturday, August 28th at Slim’s! Produced by Jon Evans, Faraway City features Scott Amendola (Charlie Hunter) on drums, Julie Wolf (Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls) on piano and organ, and Evans (Tori Amos) on bass and electric guitar.

Marked by recurring themes of both longing and empowerment, Valerie’s songs evoke an openness and honesty at once personal and political. LA-via-Oakland rapper, Mystic, gives a powerful performance on Black & White, a critical song about racial profiling and white privilege. Valerie's vocals are rich with melody and dynamic range, settling into grooves, only to punctuate them with unexpected rhythmic twists. We won’t give too much away – take a listen for yourself on www.valerieorth.com

Valerie is excited to officially release Faraway City at Slim's, one of her favorite venues in San Francisco. With Veronika Safarova on bass and backing vocals and Eryn Pola on keys, we’ll be debuting our exceptionally rockin' drummer, Jeff Marrs, along with numerous special guests (including Jon Evans and a strings section!) to ensure this show will be one to remember
