RACHEL GOODRICH (Miami, FL/LA)
Rachel Goodrich is an American musician and pioneer of "Shake-a-Billy" based in Miami, Florida. Her music has also been described as an "eclectic blend of vaudeville-inspired indie pop, swing-jazz and country-folk."

Her first album, Tinker Toys, was self-released in 2008 to which the New York Times dubbed her as a "queen of the Miami indie rock scene". Her debut album was produced by Grammy-nominated music producer Greg Wells.

Goodrich's song, "Light Bulb", was featured in an episode of the TV series Weeds, and the song also features in a Crayola commercial advertisement. A remix of the song was made by "ANR" and used on the BT Infinity – "Light Streams" advert.
The songs, "Light Bulb", "Piggy Bank" & "Ukulele Water" were featured in the MTV show My Life As Liz.

Jascha Hoffman is a songwriter and science journalist in San Francisco. His debut album A Cure for Sleep was praised for "deceptively simple, deeply weird pop songs” that earned comparisons to Sufjan Stevens and Leonard Cohen. Jascha’s second album, The Future Limited, a collection of songs inspired by science fiction, was released in March 2012. His animated and science-fiction videos have appeared on The Atlantic and Boing Boing. He is currently working on songs based on obituaries and translations of Brazilian pop songs. 

Spiff Wiegand is best known for his one-man-band concerts. Juggling up to seven instruments simultaneously without loops or technological trickery, he creates complete textures that are as unexpectedly musical as they are visually impressive. He has been compared to artists like Hank Williams, The Mountain Goats, Buddy Holly, Hot Hot Heat, Devo, and They Might Be Giants.

Coming up: Vocal Technique Class Taught by Joyce Todd McBride, director of Conspiracy of Venus. Wednesday nights at Viracocha, 8:15-9:30, March 28th -June 6th (missing May 16th), so that's 10 sessions for $175 (materials provided).

I've been learning from Joyce since 2007, and I love her way of explaining sound - it's a full body experience ! I'll be taking the class too so am especially encouraging others to join.

Class will cover...
*Technique: tone, strength, breathing, support
*Repertoire: students will be given some material in a variety of styles and will also be invited to bring in a pieces of their own choice, in any genre.*Musicianship: rhythm, intonation, listening

KICKSTARTER: 


ok, so i dropped the ball on sending this out sooner, but i still wanted to feature it cuz it's a really cool project being created by my friend raighne in minnesota. here's his description of the project:

"Little Heart is a comic anthology created to show support for marriage equality, produced in partnership with 2D Cloud & [MN]Love and YOU.

Love strikes all walks of life and it is as normal as it is diverse, as universal as it is unique. The definitions of love and marriage aren't something that can be mandated through the passage of laws; rather they develop individually for each and every one of us.

This project was spawned by the very urgent need to fight the 2012 referendum that seeks to instill discrimination and hate in the Minnesota state constitution. Since Little Heart’s inception, the project has grown. The reason for the growth is that the issue itself is bigger than Minnesota. Which is why we have enlisted artists across the US, Canada, and a small sampling of international artists. "

SUNDAY bday show: rachel goodrich, slow motion cowboys, michael musika (win tix!) + 2/25 mark matos & os beaches, katie clover, & my 2nd surprise

welcome to seaweedsway. announcements and news from under the sea.


ticket giveaway for sunday! it's my birthday show! at the make-out room with new and old favorites: rachel goodrich (shake-a-billy from miami/LA, featuring geneva harrison of bells on drums) + slow motion cowboys (country/folk/blues/worn-in shoes) + michael musika (folk/rap/pop/black magik). 7:30 doors. 8-11 show. $8.

don'tcha know, slow motion cowboys have a kickstarter! to fund their new album,buzzard songs:
these guys are some of my favorite people and musicians in SF, and the songs for this album are superb. they've already done all the recording, over a year ago, in wisconsin. they just need the funding to press the albums and get them out into the world! help 'em out? and come see them this sunday!

next week, saturday february 25th, return to the sea! come to the starry plough to hearmark matos & os beaches (folk/psych/rock) are making a comeback! new songs up! + katie clover (spirited folk/pop) got her voice back and is ready to sing for us! + my second surprise's (indiepop, all-star lineup) east bay debut! ~ there will be flying fish and seaweed for sale!
