if you're gonna be around next sunday june 19th, we are giving away a pair of tix for the seaweedsway showcase at the make-out room right now. to be entered in the contest, all you have to do is comment on the hear it local sf facebook page where you see the announcement of the giveaway. a winner will be selected at random today or friday. if you don't win, tix are only $7 at the door... such a deal!

this month, we have a rocking line-up, with ruckus rousing folk rocker Obo Martin aka Freckle Face, the pop/garage rock/psychadelic soul tunes of FpodBpod, & female fronted folk rock explosion Fox & Woman. Jeremy Dalmas and the Absurdists, the amusing hosts of each SeaweedSway Showcase, will be performing a soap opera.

IL GATO, INDIE-FOLK-ROCK BAND, NEEDS MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST
Hello, local SF band, il gato (http://www.ilgato.com), are in need of a multi-instrumentalist who can play trumpet/flugelhorn and an additional instrument, ideally one of the following:  Piano, Guitar, Accordion, Banjo, etc.

We are a serious band with a good track record, grand aspirations, and are looking for a talented musician who shares our aspirations and the associated commitments and wants to be a part of an on-going creative project. We all sing, we help write songs and we want this to be an awesome experience. We intend to record our next album in the Fall and tour in 2012. From il gato: We are looking for a band to fill a rehearsal slot at Secret Studios (2200 Cesar Chavez, SF, CA). You would have to share a drum set (yours or ours) with one of the current bands due to lack of space, though there is ample rehearsal and storage space for your band in the room. TONIGHT (the 8th) are two big & special shows:

Buxter Hoot'n are releasing their new album at Cafe du Nord, and everyone who comes to the show gets one for free!! Devotionals and Nick Jaina are playing too. Woohoo!! http://cafedunord.com 9pm.
AND
Elia Vargas made an incredible film called Woven, textures of reality balanced in psychosis. It is a narrative driven as much by sound as it is by image that explores our relationship to the world through our perceptions. 8-11. Featuring Emily Ritz & the music of Honeycomb, plus live sets by Honeycomb & Ever Isles! $6-10. @ ATA.

SUNDAY the 10th, the choir that I'm in, Conspiracy of Venus, is singing at Amnesia, after Mark Growden! We go on at 11, but get there early to hear Mark! Nautical theme so dress appropriately (if you want). $10. 9pm.

next FRIDAY April 15th:
The Blank Tapes, Little Wings, Kacey Johansing, & Rad Cloud are playing at the Great American Music Hall! 

next SUNDAY, April 17th is the SeaweedSway Showcase w/ lots of bands you may have never heard of, but they're great so check 'em out! Justin Frahm & the Gloaming Boys, Sabrina (portland), & EFFT + we're premiering Gojogo's Chasing the Moon episode for the Full Pink Moon + Jeremy Dalmas & the Absurdists are treating us to their rendition of Scooby Doo in between sets. Tonight, I'm singing in Conspiracy of Venus at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley and would love to see you there! We're opening for the talented, dynamic, funky, soulful Beth Custer Ensemble - doors at 7 and we sing at 8 sharp. Then we're singing 2 songs w/ BCE to close the night! Anacapa Arch

I took this picture of Anacapa Arch last November. Visibility is usually good during October and November at the Channel Islands but that day was incredible. It was a perfect day; calm water, strong sun, and great visibility. I also helped myself with the underwater strobe.
