solar tubing benefit folk show friday & other exciting events

dear friends, colleagues, neighbors, sfchalkboarders, living foods enthusiasts, etc.

as usual, a list of recommended events is below. it is a mixture of music shows, movement/yoga classes, farm/garden workdays & workshops, & a few other random things. (soup & lectures! punk rock breakfast!) please scroll down & mark your calendars.

i especially hope to see you this friday at the caretakers house fundraiser show. they want to buy solar tubes to help light the place ecologically, and they are making this happen by bringing lots of great bands/musicians (stitchcraft, indianna hale, foxtails brigade, & blackbird raum) to the space to raise some $$. details below.

announcements are at the bottom this time. because i really want you to read the events list! and the announcements too! but i fear some people don't get past the writing at the top.

if you have suggestions of how to better format this list, please let me know, as i can't really settle on a way to do it. the events are just so exciting to me (really), so i hope you'll at least look through the list, and come to or pass on any that seem good to you.

with love & events,

***solar tubing fundraiser show!!! @ the caretakers house. 848 divisadero.

StitchCraft
Foxtails Brigade
Blackbird Raum

Starts at 8. $5+ at door (donations of more $$ welcome). Drinks for sale. Bake Sale.

About the Show: (from Courtney! w/ special mention of tues. yoga class!)

This is the second in a series of fundraisers. We hope to bring you as amazing a time as last month (and OH! how wonderful it was!).

If you didn't read up on this last time then you might ask us WHAT on earth we need to fundraise for... WELL... In addition to the millions of things our space could use, the most pressing Are the SOLAR TUBES!!! tubes are basically tubes that run from the roof of the house to the ceiling of the livingroom all the while reflecting light so that natural daylight gets directed into the livingroom. We would be saving so much energy and making improvements to our lives through light (a very powerful change, I've notice). Additionally, we can put plants in the livingroom and make it a much more serene place for Jessie's weekly Yoga class. This was a very exciting idea, unfortunately each If you've been in the space, you know that we have a 1500sf living room that has no windows or skylights. This can be very depressing, not to mention energy sucking. A few months ago a group of bicycle riders on a tour called "Ride Green, Build Green" stayed at our house for a few days. During that time I sat down with one of the riders while he explained to me that what we really needed was Solar Tubing in our livingroom. Solarsolar tube costs in the area of $400. We will need three (two for the livingroom and one for our poor dear housemate Emily who also has no windows in her bedroom).

THE LAST FUNDRAISER MADE US EXACTLY $400!!!!
SO PLEASE PLEASE COME and bring all your friends. We're trying to keep the world a happy green healthy place with the power of the rock show. Show the world it can be done!!!!

now, for announcements!!

housing/jobs: if you receive a housing or job announcement (beyond the sf chalkboard list) and want to circulate it more, please send it to me! i have email lists of people looking for housing and for jobs, and would love to send them more stuff.

wishlist: yoga props! as many of you know, i have been teaching a community class on tuesdays at the caretakers house, since may of 2008. to my dismay, we don't yet have any props to use, except for extra yoga mats (which is great)... because i've been learning how to teach w/ props lately, i am realizing more and more how useful they can be, and would love to get some for the classes... but they are so expensive! so if you know of any places that might have some to donate, or if you want to donate any, please get in touch. and feel free to come to yoga on tuesday. (rsvp first) :) thank you!!

musical participation request!!! this is a little bit different from my usual announcements but very neat & worthy of passing on. ****lend your voice to cast a spell, on michael musika's upcoming record. following is a description from michael -- if you'd like to participate, please email him (michaelmusika@mac.com) or me for the full instructions: The spell is for harmonizing one's dreams with the melody of the universe. If you choose to participate, your voice will be recorded and mixed with a multi tracked recording of voices to be included at the end of a song on my unreleased record entitled: "The Musician's Handbook of Spells Volume 1: Nobu." The voices will wind up sounding like a drone. As such your efforts will remain anonymous. (also, the phone taking the calls is on a landline for which there is no caller id) Be prepared to be both selfless and completely attuned to self. This is a practice of healing and of love. If you know someone who hasn't received this but may enjoy participating please by all means pass the instructions along. The more singers from the more places the better.

recommended food article: Christopher Cook, author of Diet for A Dead Planet and local SF food activist, has a semi-new article called A food agenda for Obama,Now's the time to reinvent America's farm and food polices. i meant to pass this on sooner, but i believe it's still relevant. please check it out and pass it on! http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1226/p09s02-coop.html

as always, please pass this list on. this is a weekly-ish events list, w/ music, food/farm, yoga, dance, eco, and other SF Bay area events.

music shows & a swap of stuff for the new year

hi everyone,
happy holidays!

if you're in town this month and are looking for things to do, you will find a list of recommended options below. as usual, there are music shows, w/ farm workdays, yoga classes, and a swap mixed in...

as you construct resolutions for the new year, perhaps you will even find a few of the events below to be in line w/ your 2009 intentions.

speaking of food:

A san francisco show that reminds you why you wanted to leave Utah (or your hometown equivalent) and be an urban bohemian adventurer in the first place!

It's all happening in the caves beneath the Cliff House, where the mythical Obo Martin (the greatest folk songwriter around - on a tour of the NW - and former resident of the caves - seriously), SHAKE YOUR PEACE!, and perhaps the Sonya Cotton Band, will play by campfire light, the pleasant glow of chaos, and the sound of starfish fractalizing.

MORE INFO: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR CLIMATE SOLUTIONS!
http://www.projecthotseat.org/sanfrancisco

This December, world leaders will be meeting in Poznan, Poland for the
UN Climate Change Conference to decide the next steps on tackling
global warming. It's a perfect opportunity for President-elect Obama
to send a clear message to the rest of the world that the U.S. is
ready to be part of the solution. That's why on December 6th
Greenpeace members will be joining people throughout the world for an
International Day of Action for Climate Solutions. In the U.S., we'll
be holding rallies and taking photos at iconic locations in over 30
cities to send a message to the President-elect that the American
people support strong action on global warming.

What better way to send that message than with a massive 30 by 50 foot
postcard -- letting our world leaders know that here in San Francisco
we're ready for climate solutions! And, they'll know it's from us
because we're posing in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.

We'll have a few speakers, we'll take a massive group photo with our
custom made 30 x 50 ft. banner, and we'll march across the Golden Gate
Bridge. The very next day, our Greenpeace activists in Poland will
deliver the photos of YOUR rally to climate negotiators, sending the
message that Americans are ready for climate solutions.

Show President-elect Obama you're serious about global warming and
RSVP for the day of action in San Francisco today.

3) DECEMBER 6TH FUNDRAISER MUSIC SHOW FOR SOLAR TUBING @ THE CARETAKER'S HOUSE.

DEAD WESTERN
MAGGIE MORRIS
DIRT PORCH
and PERROS CON PISTOLAS

$5-$100 (or more if you've got it!)
Starts at 8, doors at 7:30
Party? Always happening!

It promises to be an awesome night of fun and fancy. There will be drinks and people you love. Bring some money cause its a fundraiser!!!

FOR WHAT?, You ask. WELL... The fundraiser is for us! If you've been in the space, you know that we have a 1500sf living room that has no windows or skylights. Solar tubes are basically tubes that run from the roof of the house to the ceiling of the livingroom all the while reflecting light so that natural daylight gets directed into the livingroom. We would be saving so much energy and making improvements to our lives through light (a very powerful change, I've notice). Additionally, we can put plants in the livingroom and make it a much more serene place for Jessie's Woletz's weekly Yoga class. This was a very exciting idea, unfortunately each solar tube costs in the area of $400. We will need three (two for the livingroom and one for our poor dear housemate Emily who also has no windows in her bedroom).

SO PLEASE PLEASE COME and bring all your friends. We're trying to keep the world a happy green healthy place with the power of the rock show. Show the world it can be done!!!!
