events list & Call for Help: GOLD RUSH Benefit for HOLLIS Thursday

dear friends,

as many of you may have heard, Hollis Hawthorne, a friend & inspiration to many, is in need of our help. she was in a terrible motorcycle accident in India a couple of weeks ago and is still in a coma, without insurance. the community response has been amazing and overwhelming, with everyone working harder than ever to raise $ to fly her back to the US in an air ambulance, but there is a lot of $ still needed to make it happen. Stanford Hospital has incredibly agreed to donate their care once she arrives. last i heard, $70,000 has already been raised, and the goal is $150,000.

a group of us have come together quickly to organize a huge benefit happening this thursday at Slim's in SF, a GOLD RUSH for HOLLIS. details are below & attached. conspiracy of venus is singing a few songs, and there is an eclectic lineup to make for an exciting variety show. if you are around, please come and share your energy to help get Hollis a little bit closer to returning to home.
wear GOLD if you have it, her signature color!

*all* forms of help are welcome. go to http://friendsofhollis.com to see the latest news. http://friendsofhollis.blogspot.com has up to date information from her boyfriend Harrison who is with her in India, being encouraged and supported by this wonderful community we all share. please give however you can, come to the benefit, and check the websites for news & inspiration! thank you.

"Thus, in the way of Sybil, Carletta Sue Kay was birthed, to give voice to Walker's more lilting, Emmylou Harris–meets–Ma
gnetic Fields tunes. Backed by Metal Bob on guitar and Danyol and Mark Mekaru on piano, cello, rhythm guitar, and accordion, Carletta croons her way through an lovely echo chamber of gender-benders..."

San Francisco's Jason Finazzo is best known around these parts as the frontman for The Naysayers. Aside from this rip roaring and rocking gig, Finazzo doubles under the name Secondcousins, his alter ego/moniker for his down home brand of Americana. Sounding at home in the Saloons of last century, Finazzo is an old soul if ever there was one. Fueled by equal parts wine and guts, his material is at once poetic and wounded, with a voice that is desperate, delicate and emotional. His solo material shows a man more troubled than his Naysayers exterior would allow, but which the Bay Area is more than ready to embrace.
