HI!
in the spirit of spontaneity: here is a show in which I am singing tonight (w/ CoV, we open) + co-presenting................. at the Starry Plough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to see you there! We've been working hard on our songs, and are bringing back some older ones that are my favorites. Soldier's Things & Rain Dogs by Tom Waits... plus Come on Up to the House with Jamie Freedman solo'ing. a newish one by our incredible director Joyce Todd McBride, In the Bud (bossa nova style). And we have our usual Joni Mitchell array: Black Crow (re-named Black F'ing Crow, cuz it's a challenging one) + Big Yellow Taxi.
Also tonight, we are excited to celebrate Animal Hours' Debut Album Release + their band members' bdays: Heather Anderson (formerly of Blue Rabbit) and Orion Letizi. Only Seaweed Sway show of the month, as far as I know! (Next one is May 4th at Amnesia w/ Dana Falconberry & Assateague & Indianna Hale!!!)
In other news: 1) Alemany Farm Herb Garden workday is tomorrow at 1pm. 2) Ronnie & I are embarking on a new project: compiling a mix of songs from local-ish artists that have non-GMO sentiment, inspired by Michael Hurley's idea. The details of all of this are below. 3) Looking for housing? Links at the end. 4) Going to Minnesota mid-month so hope to see you tonight or soon. Love, Jessie

We Invite Musicians, Artists to Contribute ::: anti-GMO anti-Monsanto Songs
Dear friends,
Inspired by Michael Hurley's proposal to compile songs that are anti-GMO & anti-Monsanto, we would like to start making our own BAY AREA compilation of songs. These songs can be directly or non-directly related; since our food system relates to us in every facet of our lives, how does it directly link to our experience of living in the Bay Area's nine counties?
We are still figuring out the details of how it will work, and right now are trying to gauge interest levels. We are hoping to raise awareness, locally foremost, and globally.
If you would like to contribute a song, please get in touch. We realize that some folks may want to WRITE a song just for this purpose, and in that case, we'd love to know how long you would need, so we can factor that in as much as possible.
We imagine it will go up on bandcamp at the very least, but we'd like to make some hard copies to hand out as well. We also imagine having a big party/benefit, and would like to involve different local organizations, so feel free to send us ideas of organizations and restaurants that do work around this. (Maybe these lists already exist somewhere; if so, even better, and we can add to them.)
Please let us know if you would like to
a) help, in any way!
b) contribute a song! (is it an existing song or will you be writing a new one?)
c) know of a band/org/restaurant that you think we should contact
Once we know who is interested, we will be in touch with next steps and song-sending instructions. We probably will ask to receive the songs via dropbox, in as big of a file format as possible (ideally a .wav or flac and not mp3). We'll also want to know the lyrics, any story or thoughts behind the song, and credits to musicians who played/ recording engineer/ studio/ etc. Plus a photo! & links!
Thanks in advance for your ideas and contributions!
