realizing all of the great offerings of the community, i've been inspired to write up a list of gift ideas. pass it on if you'd like, & feel free to send me more ideas. it's an initial brainstorm. the list includes sean hayes' music, guitar lessons, meditation, yoga, massage, herbs, plants, & the sf poor bastard's almanac. just a few of my favorite things.

this list was posted today, by Jessica Weiss, as a way that "techies" can give back in the SF Bay Area, but really anyone who has some $ can give or time to donate can give to these organizations.
Housing Advocacy Organizations
San Francisco Tenants' Union and Housing Rights Committee: Great organizations that provide tenants' rights counseling and pro-renter political advocacy in San Francisco.

Causa Justa/Just Cause: Grassroots political organizing group based in SF and Oakland. Doing a lot of work against gentrification in communities of color (particularly in the Mission).
Tenants Together: Organizing for tenants' rights statewide, particularly working to repeal the Ellis Act (misuse of the Ellis Act is why many San Franciscans are being illegally evicted right now).
Eviction Defense Collaborative: provides legal counseling and one-time no-interest loans for tenants facing eviction.
Homeless Youth Alliance: This organization does amazing, harm reduction-based work with homeless youth in San Francisco. After their landlord's raised their rent earlier this year, they are being forced to close their drop-in center the day after Christmas, this year. They could really use the support!

Community Housing Partnership: Provides and runs supportive housing for formerly homeless families and individuals in San Francisco.
San Francisco Community Land Trust: Provides permanently affordable housing opportunities for lower income San Franciscans through community ownership of land.
Mercy Housing: A national affordable housing developer with a strong Bay Area presence, serving families, seniors and people with special needs
