Tonight! Chasing the Moon w/ Kacey Johansing, Honeycomb, & Michael Musika

hello everyone,
a reminder to look out at the sky for the full moon!

in celebration of the full moon & fantastic local music, there's a Chasing the Moon show tonight.

this full moon will feature & premiere the podcast for the lovely & talented Kacey Johansing, with live music from Honeycomb & Michael Musika (both with Kacey in the band!). it's at a new event space that we're really excited to christen w/ a spirit of community, music, & nature appreciation.

dress to go into the woods (you'll see why when you arrive), and, if inspired, let me know if you are up for helping with the bake sale, making healthy elixirs, taking photos, or helping with the door. (community event style!)

this is a new event i'll be organizing (w/ the help of the bands playing & the Chasing the Moon crew), so please stay tuned for future full moon shows.

thanks & hope to see you there. full details & events list is below.

..............

Hello Good People,
Tonight, Monday January 25th there will be a benefit to raise funds for Haiti at El Rio between 8-9:30.
I will be playing with my good friend Ofir Uziel as we dust off our organ drum duo project Here's Rusty at 8 sharp.
The awesome SF Balkan brass band Brass Menazeri will also be playing along with some MC's and spoken word artists.
Come show your love and support both spiritually and materially for the people enduring this great tragedy.

El Rio is on Mission St. @ Valencia.

Also below you will find an insightful and informative article that puts into current and historical perspective some of the economic and colonialist US practices over the last century that are responsible for magnifying the loss that's been occurring in Haiti in the face of this earthquake.

Hope to see you there!
Love,
Ezra

P.S. Also if you can't make it but still would like to contribute here are two great organizations to donate to. Every little bit helps!

SeaweedSway SUNDAY: Emily Jane White, Foxtails Brigade, & Devotionals w/ MC Jeremy Dalmas @ the Make-Out Room. Early show, 7:30-11pm.

hello everyone, and happy new year!

i think it's going to be a good year.

to kick it off, begin a new decade, and to reset intentions with the support of community and music, let's gather sunday at the make-out room, to hear some songs from Emily Jane White, Foxtails Brigade, & Devotionals, with interspersed entertainment from MC Jeremy Dalmas. who knows, these songs may even help dissolve pieces of 2009 that may unnecessarily linger, giving you a chance to recall memories and let go.

Emily Jane White will have some new material, and the line-up for Foxtails Brigade at this show will feature Laura Weinbach (singer/songwriter) trying out new collaborations/arrangements with violinist Anton Patzner of Judgement Day and cellist Jen Grady. Also, their set will feature guest appearances by guitarist Josh Pollock of Citay and percussionist Mark Clifford. Devotionals is a project of Two Gallants' drummer Tyson Vogel, playing John Fahey-style guitar, and Anton Patzner again on violin, plus Jeff Blair on drums. Be sure to look at the attached flyer, made by Tyson!

with soul-satisfying songs perfect for warming you up in the winter, from

EMILY JANE WHITE
Smokey, sad folk-country-blues tunes. "Emily Jane White is a rare solo performer who can cut through noisy club din and turn antsy foot traffic into apt listeners. Her voice pierces the egos of those within earshot; it's a low, lilting alto, often compared to Chan Marshall and Hope Sandoval." -- SF Weekly
http://myspace.com/emilyjanewhite

FOXTAILS BRIGADE
w/ Laura Weinbach, Anton Patzner on violin, & special guests
"Foxtails Brigade has that 'anytime but now, anywhere but here' quality that accompanies a lot of bands not punching away at the prefab Garage Band beats on their Macs, and it's such a welcome vacation. The violin & guitar glide & pluck together beautifully, accompanied by Laura Weinbach's sweet & powerful vocals." - SF Weekly
"...reminiscent of Kate Bush, Edith Piaf, & Nico. Their haunting vocal sounds and violin harmonies, fairy-tale lyrics, & classical technique deem them artists to watch with great things to come." - CBF (LA Weekly)
http://myspace.com/lauraweinbach

DEVOTIONALS

"prayers.ruminations...plain existence. Devotionals is only a moniker set to represent the thing we all do upon our awakening. It is a statement of existence, and the rumination on the "how to" of the everyday breathe. The band is for the most part Anton Patzner(Judgment Day), Jeff Blair, and Tyson Vogel. Based around the guitar compositions of the latter, Anton invigorates the space with his inspired form of violin mastery and intuition, Jeff percussive sensitivity and heart. Giving a nod of reverence to what has come before in forms of Rachmaninov to John Fahey, to the unknown echos of the street musician, these songs, in form mostly instrumental, represent only the beat of the heart, and the ache to understand."
